The Ideal Alternative to a Concrete Base
In February of 2006, Ultra Base successfully installed modular sport tiles over its interlocking base panels...forever replacing the need for concrete and asphalt sub base construction. Subsequent improvements were made and Ultra Base panels are now specified as a safer, less permanent and more permeable base for backyard courts.
The Project
For this particular project, not only was the homeowner excited about the benefits of the Ultra Base system, but given how difficult this space was going to be to access with heavy equipment, Ultra Base was one of the only options that would even allow for this project to happen.
The installation team was able to compact the earth base retaining with a basic vibratory stamper and cover it with a permeable, woven, geotextile fabric. The Ultra Base panels were then laid in place and then covered with another geotextile fabric to create a sound barrier between our panels and the plastic sports tiles.
The Solution
The modular plastic tiles were then assembled directly on top of the Ultra Base panels and fabric. The fencing, basketball goals and lights were then added. In just a few days of work this happy customer had a sport court ready for years of family fun. This interlocking panel base court offers incredible structural stability and drainage while maintaining a level of resiliency that is immediately recognizable as a more forgiving, safer-feeling play surface.
