The History of Ultra Base
The Ultra Base brand traces its roots back to 2002 when inventor and entrepreneur Dave Barlow founded Tour Links, an innovative modular putting green system that utilized interlocking molded bases.
The brand became very popular within the golf community and virtually every major exhibitor at the annual PGA Merchandise show was using the modular putting greens within a few years.
Replacing Mass with Science
Over time, enthusiasm for the modular bases expanded as customers turned to Dave to create modular base systems for applications beyond bases for artificial grass golf greens.
With the goal of Replacing Mass with Science, Dave and his team immersed themselves in the design and testing of new modular, interlocking panels that could replace traditional crushed rock bases for all types of artificial turf applications.
Courts without Concrete
With dozens of patents in hand and worldwide success in pioneering the next generation of synthetic turf installations, the Ultra Base team turned its attention to developing a solution for Courts without Concrete.
The Ultra Base Court Panel was developed and followed shortly by the Foundation Panel, a fast-draining, non-permanent yet solid and stable alternative to pouring a concrete pad.
American Made
Since its founding, tens of millions of square feet of Ultra Base panels have been installed in over 40 countries and on every continent on the planet. The company was acquired by The Recreational Group in early 2022 and is now headquartered in Dalton, Georgia.
