The Project
When our team first arrived on site, they were struck by the beauty of the location for this project, but also overwhelmed by the magnitude of Terry Anton’s vision for SNAG®, an acronym for Starting New at Golf. Ultra Base had already helped many customers build backyard putting greens and golf practice areas, but Terry was taking this to a new level. He planned to transform his backyard into a country club quality golf course to showcase his new SNAG golf system.
Sub Base Construction
Due to the scope of the project, Terry already had a large excavation team in place to sculpt the land and bring his vision to life. This team worked to grade the land and build the putting green sub bases with contours and the proper drainage pitch and slope. The stone dust was meticulously graded, compacted, and rolled by former Ultra Base president Dave Barlow and the hard working crew of Hughes Golf Greens.
The Ultra Base Advantage
Once the greens were properly sloped and contoured, the Ultra Base geo fabric was installed and the panels were carefully laid into place - creating the bases for six putting greens that ranged from 1,000 to 15,000 square feet in size. After this, the pre-cut turf was laid in place, seamed together and outfitted with the fringe turf. Given the minimal amount of infill used on turf, the turf was stapled to the panels for added stability.
Vision Brought to Life
Once the greens were complete, colorful turf tee boxes were added and the other landscaping and spectacular design features were installed. Terry Anton and SNAG have a vision for the growth of golf and the Ultra Base team was very excited to play a role in helping fulfill his vision.
